Would you support mandatory recycling in the USA?
Why or why not?
I don’t think you can mandate recycling, but if you look at how successful the deposit law is for getting soda and beer containers recycled, I think you could impose tax stamps on food boxes based on how much and what kind of material they use. You would have two types of tax, one for recyclable and one for non-recyclable containers. Then you could turn them in like we do now for soda containers. I think is appalling there is no deposit on water bottles when we toss away billions every year and they can be recycled. This would encourage both people to turn in packaging and for producers to use less material to sell their products.
